I thought of a couple other places
Whole Foods – I would think for sure they would have them
Promise Joe ?
I was right… works for frying also.
You’ll find one Dawn.
Thanks Mariner. I’m not looking to steam with one of these baskets. It’s for pressure frying with oil in a pressure cooker. Take a look at the link above to get an idea of what I’m trying to find.
Wish Beall’s, Steinmart, and all of these other chains would come down this far south. We finally got Kohl’s, so maybe there’s hope.

Dawn—-if you haven’t already run out and bought one of the collapsing type go to the post I just entered—–great kitchen gadget. You might get lucky in Beales just as I did yesterday. Bought a microwave steamer and used it last night—super.
Will use it tonight with chicken breat and broccoli in 2 baskets. 3 minutes—on the table.
They sell them in all of my local grocery stores.

Mine broke , so I bouhgt a new fancy dancy one in Publix for $6.75.
I have two of these. Of course, I have had them for a while.
Same as in the picture, pressure frying Joe.
It seems to be the answer for less oil displacement and sits down very low. Low oil line of about 2-3″ is critical to the process, so you need all the available surface area. Regular baskets have risers and lip hooks that require a higher oil line and have a smaller diameter then the vessel. I’ve been using a chinese skim with good sucess, but this seems to be an inexpensive and elegant solution.
OK folks. This is what I was asking a about. They were popular years ago and the last time I seen them was in Lecter’s during the early 80’s for a few bucks. I seen a commercial this evening that’s touting these collapsible baskets as something new and revolutionary. There’s nothing new about these and they were derived from egg baskets.
I’m sure I’ve seen them in the housewares section of TJ Maxx and Marshall’s. Probably a little more expensive, but Bed, Bath, and Beyond as well.
Ahh, I have never owned one of those. I have seen them before though. I can see the advantage for steaming some stuff. You can lift everything out of the pot. I guess it works for frying also?
Dawn, what do you plan to steam, or fry, w/ this?
Joe, the Norpro that I found on Amazon is the petal type. This is like a mesh with a wire frame. If you place it on a flat surface it flattens out. Here’s a link to one that being sold with a used pressure cooker on e-bay
Dawn, I picked up a spare at a flea market for $1. Hmm, let me see if I can find some on the net.
Norpro stainless steel vegetable steamer; At Amazon.com $7.97
That seams kinda high though since you will have to pay shipping… unless you need some other stuff. It is eligible for free shipping if you spend $25 or more total on eligible stuff. I do like shopping there for cooking stuff. but I always do tha free shipping.
Weird that Super Target of someplace like that would not have these.
I use mine for steamed shrimp. Just sprinkle on some Tony’s More Spice Creole, and some in tha water, and they are great!
