Alka Seltzer had a few good ones – “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing”
                                                             “That’s a spicy meatball”

One of my favorite ads was for Cap’n Crunch cereal, parodying the Timex ‘torture test’ ads of the time. A John Cameron Swayze type shows us Lake Michigan, drained and refilled with milk, with the Cap’n’s ship lowered in, the Cap’n tied to the rudder holding a box of his cereal. After the successful test, the Cap’n is okay, but says “I’m gonna have to get a milk-proof watch, though.”
Jay Ward was brilliant. He had a clause in his commercial career where he could quit when it wasn’t fun anymore.

I’m not familiar with the one with Wally Cox but I took another look at YouTube to see if it was there. I did find a Sunsweet commercial with Ray Bradbury (!!), but no Wally.

Vince, I just found your prune commercial on YouTube.  Look under “Classic Sunsweet Pitted Prune Commercial 1967”.

    Is this it ???
I’ve been wanting to try the YouTube doodad.

    … not Wally though.

While that’s a good one, I’m definitely looking for the one with Wally Cox – he’s being forcibly held down by a couple of bruisers (one of them the great Mike Mazurki)…he really, really doesn’t like prunes.

One that was on here recently was for Yellawood, a wood treatment. It features a cowboy wearing a yellow hat and the story is like an old Saturday matinee serial. I will stop whatever I’m doing to watch it!

I’m still searching the Websternet for the pitted prune commercial with Wally Cox. Hope it turns up one day…

That commercial was for Sunsweet and it featured an offscreen Stan Freberg interviewing Charles Laughton lookalike Ronald Long about the advantages of pitted prunes. It was Freberg who uttered the “Today the pits, tomorrow the wrinkles…” line at the conclusion.

Vince – “today the pits, tomorrow the wrinkles…” do you think it’s Stan Freberg you’re thinking of?
