Since 1997, I’ve been receiving an annual shipment of smoked Polish sausages from Chicago’s Lasak Delicatessan. A friend buys the sausages when she travels to Chicago for family visits. Lasak’s is just a few blocks from her childhood home and the family has patronized it forever. My annual order is up to 20 lbs. When the sausages arrive, I tightly wrap them in Saran wrap, place them in airtight plastic bags and freeze.
The deli address is:
5754 1/2 S Pulaski Rd
Chicago, IL 60629
My friend used to bring smoked garlic sausages, but the Polish deli that made them is closed. I liked the garlic sausages the best; they were absolutely sensational. I’m hopeful my Polish friend will eventually find a new source for smoked garlic sausages.
You don’t say which Best Western that you are staying at but if it is the one off of Ohio then the trip the Bobak’s would be quite a haul.
My suggestion for a great deli that is closer to were you are staying is Manny’s Coffee Shop and Deli. Manny’s has been around decades and is a must stop if you enjoy corn beef sandwiches, potato pancakes and chicken soup.
They are located at 1141 S. Jefferson St. The hours of operation are Monday – Saturday 5:00 am – 4:00 pm and they are closed on Sunday.
Breakfast at Mitchells. Downtown across the street (south) from the amtrak train station. Try the skirt steak and eggs. great atmosphere weekdays, waitstaff with the rough edges, real hash house queens
St. Louis Browns fan
Bobak’s on Archer Ave. near Midway Airport is a must stop. It’s a huge Polish (Chicago has 300,000 Polish language speakers) deli/buffet with great food and rock-bottom prices.
3 days to spend in Chicago staying at Best Western Inn of Chicago, any great food retail must sees?
