I have seen folks do that too.  When I was talking to my HD about putting a grill on my cart, I believe her exact words were “don’t let us catch you with a grill on the ground or a table.”

I didn’t ask why because I wasn’t, but I think it had something to do with the tipping hazard.

I have been asked if i could grill my dogs on an outdoor grill?  I said no which i believe to be true….HOWEVER, i saw a cart about 5 miles out of my town who is operating a cart and has a small outdoor grill set up beside his cart with all his stuff piled up on a big table, WOW. Now i know why they ask.  Can someone please answer this for me.  I dont want to sound any alarms with my inspector by calling to ask him, if this is legal more power to him. I know with smokers and such you have to have a special  properly vented/screened set up and obviously my concession wagon can’t either…so i think. Answers?
    Thx!-

This worked out real good for you and inexpensive…….Great job…….. BillyB

He is out there everyday doing this but its outside town limits so no one is really looking at him.  I am going to keep steaming mine.  The lady that inspects here seems a little tough. I got a “surprise” visit 2 weeks ago and dont want to get off to a bad start.  Playing by the rules seems easier…  I am now delivering to local businesses (if u have an extra person/car do this!! i have a 10 min for free del and its been pulling in extra $$) and i have a delivery next door to where he is and they said he sells cheap small dogs no extras for 2$ and a can of coke for $1.

Hey Gene…since it won’t be on the ground or the table, couldn’t you use a small propane grill and technically it will be on your cart??   DD

I would put brackets on the cart and carry the BBQ grill with me and assemble on site. When you get on site slide or bolt in the BBQ grill to the side of the cart. Where there is a will there’s a way………………..Bill

Have a friend call the HD. That way, you’re not connected. The paperwork they gave you should have the Rules & Regs in there.

“[style=”color: #ff0000;”]don’t let us catch you with a grill on the ground or a table[/style].”

I don’t have a food trailer or cart, but by the statement made by the HD I would think a grill that is made into the cart would be okay if it passes inspection – a grill “on the ground or a table” would be one that has not passed the HD’s inspection.

Mamie, what the HD should have said is, a grill is allowed if its attached to, or part of the cart. The HD doesn’t want to see stand alone BBQ grills that can tip over or be knocked off a table……………………..Bill

All 4 of my carts have BBQ’s on them.  It’s the way dogs are done up here on the west coast of Canada.  I dont see what the problem would be, your cooking outside!!  The best part of having a BBQ on your trailer is THE SMELL!!  I have grilled onions caramalizing all day in a pan up top and you wouldn’t believe hoew far the smell goes.

Ask you HD why you can’t have one??  Even my 2 enclosed carts have them…all the sides flip open so there is plenty of air flow.  I keep the smokies/dogs in steam untill someone orders then grill them to finish…if you can do it, i recommend it.  The taste of the BBQ is great, plus up here people prefer a light toast on the buns to you just throw them up top for a min to heat em up.

I’d be interested to see what their answer is.

Know manufacturers that build Char Broilers into their carts. Me would rather have a flat top. To versatile.
BillyB glad to see you back.

Also the Noob is using a Canadian built cart. Apollo Carts
