My boyfriend lives outside of LA, and I’m visiting him next week. Normally we go to In N Out. I’m a huge fan. But I’m thinking maybe we’ll try this Y-Not Burgers place… Is it just in the California area? Are there many loacations?

Mayor..it’s off topic, but did you know they’ve opened an El Pollo Loco here in Chicago…near Logan Square…looks like you’re not too far away in Indiana, so you should check it out sometime…I haven’t been yet, but frequented it in LA…

    Ellen,
It’s a minor point…but Carl’s bought Hardee’s, not the other way around. I had hoped to see the Western BaconCheesburger, my one real "choice" on the Carl’s menu to start showing up at the Hardee’s back here in the Ohio Valley…but no such luck[:(]

I do miss the Black Bean Bowl from El Pollo Loco !! Hard to eat while driving, but once you put the shaver away and get off the cell-phone anything was possible!!

Carl’s Jr is OK when you are in a "fix" ,as most drive-thrus are open 24/7.
From LAX airport, there is one only about 1 mile away, on Century BLVD, good for a quick cab ride if you are on a layover.

HOWEVER, that being said, I feel that Carl’s JR has gone a bit downhill ever since Hardee’s took them over.

I prefer places like Y-not burger on Sepulveda BLVD in Torrance, (great recommendation you made!) just past Del Amo mall…
cause at least the burger is made fresh…….(they even have an "ostrich burger" there..(go figure)
and there are plenty of similar places , with names like "Steve’s Burgers", etc.

The problem I have with Carl’s Jr. lately is that when I try to tell them "fresh off the grill" please, there is a big English communication problem. Usually , the worker smiles and nods their head. Then I drive off, and end up eating a lukewarm burger.

L D There are a number of Farmer Boys stores around the San Bernardino/Riverside County area and even some now in Orange County too. Check their website for locations convenient for you. We like the one nearest the Ontario Airport on Milliken. My wife is the Rubio’s lover. I think she goes to one in Redlands or Yucaipa when she visits the dreaded M I L . ( I don’t do M I L visits)

    Mr. Mayor-
I’ll be in SoCal in 3 weeks.
I’ll try to twist the family’s arms into trying both locations.

My wife makes semi-annual SoCal flights to visit her family (not road-trips!!) Her two must stop FF places are Farmer Boys and Rubio’s. I agree about Farmer Boys but will hold judgement on Rubio’s till I get in a couple more visits this Fall.

If you are going to Los Angeles, you must have a "Y NOT" burger. It is located on Hawthorne Blvd. in Torrance, just south of the Del Amo Mall. I just returned from a vacation there after twenty years and was shocked to find them still in business. They were awesome, just like I remembered. Great fries and onion rings too. They now serve breakfast too, but I think i’ll just stick to lunch and dinner.[:)]

Yes…Carl’s is quite good, and often gets overlooked in favor of the legendary In n’Out…but it stands up in its own right…and I agree…Del Taco is fabulous…

One of my favorite CA (and Japanese) chains in Yoshinoya Beef Bowl….think of it a sort of Arby’s over rice, with onions and au jus…..mmmmmmmmmm

    Well,I love it anyway…

I never made it to Rubios, but hopefully I’ll get to try it out next time I’m out that way. I did however try a fish taco at Del Taco once.

My personal fave is "In N Out Burger" But my wife prefers "Carl’s Jr."
She says "Carl’s Jr." is not as lean as "In N Out" so it has more flavor.
She like the open flame taste as well.

Sorry, I can’t be a fan of Carl’s Jr. The one nearest me is a hangout for drug dealers and other low lifes. Some of the food is OK (the burger with bacon and BBQ sauce ain’t bad at all), but the place itself is just sleazy.

Oh, and how come you didn’t mention Rubio’s, home of the fish taco??

I live in Connecticut, but recently returned home from a trip to San Diego. I couldn’t believe the amount of fast food places out there, as well as the quality of them. After visiting a Carl’s Jr, you’ll never be satisfied with Burger King again. Other places of note I visited out there were Jack in the Box, Wienerschniztel, In N Out Burger, and Del Taco. All were quite good.
