hello from mi. #244
I lived in the Mission Hill district of Boston in 1987, and was there when Cajun Joe’s opened. It was the only place I went for chicken; it beat the feathers off KFC. Plus, it was only a 5 minute walk from my apartment. I used to get the spicy 2 piece combo with rice and a peach pie for dessert. For those who have never had their chicken, it was like Popeye’s, only spicier.
I am the Founder of Cajun Joe’s and opened my first Restaurant in the Mission Hill section of Boston in 1985. We opened four more in Boston over the next two years franchising two of them. We met Fred DeLuca of Sunway at an International Franchise Associtaion meeting in 1988 and by April 1989 became part of the Subway franchise company. we opened more than 400 stores nationwide and guess what, it didn’t work. Kinda gave Subway a bit of a black eye, stores that were still operating werte released from their franchise agreements. Some stores continued as Cajun Joe’s, some stores closed, some changed concepts and others were sold and lots became Chinese restaurants. I guess the size of the Restaurants and equiptment packages lent themselves well to that type of operation.
For those that still have a Cajun Joe’s open I am jealous, I REALLY miss my chicken!!!
Around that time there were Cajun Joe’s all over the Metro-Detroit area too and I loved them! Of course, they’re all gone now, but I did see one still operating in Brighton MI, which is about 45 min. west of where I am! I do have friends who live out there so my next visit, I have to check them out!
I remember at least one Cajun Joes here in the Boston area circa 1987 until ??? Definitely gone now. I can’t remember much about them.
Ok… about 12 years ago there was a chicken place in Northern Kentucky called Cajun Joe’s. I know it was a franchise thing and they didn’t last long. I remember one in Erlanger, Florence and then one opened up in Crescent Springs for a short period of time. I remember the chicken was really good and I loved the Cajun fries that they had. Anyone else have any memories of them and are there any left in the country?
