Over a year and a half ago the fried chicken that was once served at the now defunct Bon Ton Mini Mart in Henderson, Kentucky began being served at Brown Bag Burgers in the same town. A few Roadfooders have been there since it began serving the recipe, but its introduction has been very low-key and quiet.
Other than at this website, I really haven’t seen much fanfare about it, but that is about to change. The newspaper in Evansville, Indiana, which is just across the Ohio river from Henderson, Kentucky, finally did a story on this famous fried chicken and its new home.
I know I will see a few of my fellow roadfooders at the W.C. Handy Festival a week from now, and I’m sure they will enjoy that indescribable Bon Ton flavor as they bite into their fried chicken at its new location.
Like the Bon Ton Mini Mart before it, I guess this place will be a featured Roadfood restaurant at some point.
If Brown Bag would just franchise and open up a few locations in more accessible parts of the country, more of us would be able to enjoy the chicken![;)]
From prior threads, wasn’t Bon Ton Fried Chicken going to be re-named “RoadFood Fried Chicken?
As the article says, its official name for the fried chicken recipe at the restaurant is “Roadfood Chicken.” However, people know the recipe (locally and nationally) as Bon Ton Mini Mart Fried Chicken. It’ll take years for people to get used to the new name.
