I don’t know what it is about LeMars that I could just stay there! Is it the Blue Bunny ice cream, or Bob’s Drive In or Archie’s Waeside?
I had my first "Tavern" in Homer, Nebraska and was a little shocked when my sister-in-law ordered chili and dumped a half bag of OYSTER CRACKERS into her chili. My SO’s uncle and cousins live in LeMars and his mother is from there. I just love that town.
Had the pleasure of stopping after riding from Ft. Collins, CO (688 mi.), in over 100 degree heat while on a solo motorcycle trip. I had the "Tavern" (loose meat) and a hot dog all the way and a small coke. Cost me less than 5 bucks and was great. I sat at the little picnic table out front, finished it off and went to my motel and thanked the Lord for A/C! Another favorite meal was in Pinedale, WY. I passed thru town in the middle of the Green River Rendezvous (dedicated to the mountain men who came down from the Wind River Range and partied for about a month!). Anyway, on the outskirts of town I noticed a bright red food trailer with the lettering, "Cajun Rendezvous", "Kick Ass, Coon Ass Food". Did a quick U-turn and walked up to the young lady from Forked Island, LA (south of Lafayette). I ordered the frogs legs and fries…..10 min. later I was in heaven. The lightest, most delicate batter, and the meatiest and most perfectly cooked frog I’ve ever tasted. To top it off, 6 pairs for 6 bucks! I had the shrimp plate for dessert minus the fries. My impulsive U-turn was the best decision of the entire trip.[:D]
Bob’s Drive In, LeMars, Iowa….
