    Hey Gschwim !

    I’m in the city.
I agree with JF — what deli is this ? lol
    Man ….
Ta eat a real kosher frank sold loose …. in frank-moisture blotted butcherpaper ….
    WOOT WOOT !

As an aside — please to be trying "Issac Gellis" franks.
They are the best — but a little birdie told me they don’t sell ’em anymore.
Is this true, do ya know?

    Later!

    gschwim,

Just curious, which Jewish delicatessen’s are you talking about? If they are kosher, they usually sell the skinless dogs. If they are with casings, they are collagen rather than natural casing. Goldberg’s in Old Bridge sells Hebrew National with collagen casings. Tabatchnik’s (which is not kosher) does sell a kosher dog (Empire) also with the collagen casing. Katz’s deli in N.Y., also not kosher, does sell natural casing Sabrett’s which are kosher style, not kosher.

My absolute favorite is natural-casing, all-beef, sold-loose-by-the-pound kosher hot dogs, a genuine Jewish delicatessen. But after that, it’s either the natural-casing Boar’s Head or natural-casing Nathans. The Boar’s Head never seems to go on special, but Nathan’s sometimes goes on special here, in NYC, as $2.99/pkg., at which point it becomes my first choice.

    Enjoy the dog!

Also do a search on RF for anything contributed by John Fox, the hot dog authority.

Yes, Boar’s Head Natural Casing All-Beef dogs are the very best you can buy, in my opinion.

Be sure to cook them slowly on medium-low heat on a flat-iron grill, turning often. I butter the grill surface first., then toast the buns in an open area. Cook until just before they "pop" so all those good juices explode on your first bite. You’ll think you’re back in New York. Far better than those ersatz, skinless Heb. Nat. dogs that have become ubiquitous.

Another excellent choice, BTW, is Best ‘s brand, if you can find them, but only in the five-to-a-pound, five-pound packages. Skip the Bests in the small packages of, I think, eight. These aforementioned Best dogs are a bit larger, and do "best" on an outdoors charcoal fire, where I think they grill up sensationally.

I’ve yet to try Boars Head brand… I’ve chowed down Koegels for a long time now. Recently I’ve been on a Nathans kick, but ready to try something new… hmmmmm…

Thanks BB. Guess it’s the feet and tails that make them taste so good.

My favorite dog has always been Hebrew National, yesterday we bought a package of Boars Head, all beef, natural case hot dogs. They are my new favorite.

FWIW, the Boar’s Head "Lite" hot dog is the best low-cal hot dog I have tasted.

Boars Head is without a doubt the finest nationally distributed, natural casing hot dog I’ve ever had.

Here in Chicago, Vienna Beef pretty much rules the market. Not a bad product but I’ve had better. On par with a David Berg dog.

Nathan’s does a decent cased frank but they’re hard to get here . . . mostly just skinless in area stores.

Now if you’re ever in Chicago and want to challenge your hot dog palette, you’ve got to visit HOT DOUG’S at 3324 North California. They case their own meat and baby do they do some crazy exotic varieties. They even do hand-cut fries cooked in DUCK FAT! Talk about shaving years off of your life . . . but worth it, delish!
