What is heart of Palm, part of a palm tree? I’ve eaten some but don’t know what exactly it is.
I love artichokes steamed then dipped in either butter of mayo. Then the heart is he best part.
Hearts of palm are very popular in Brazil. They’re not as costly there, either. We love artichokes prepared any way. We always look forward to our trip to SoCal to get fresh artichokes at 1/2 the price in Alaska……and MUCH better.
MikeS. just asked about asparagus, like it, hate, etc. What about these two? Hearts of Palm, and Artichoke Hearts? I love ’em both in salads. I read that 95% or so of the world’s production of hearts of palm gets shipped to France. Read the wikipedia piece, the stuff has NOTHING to do with palm oil. In artichoke hearts, I have seen them packed either in oil, or less commonly in water. Since anything I put them in would already have olive oil, or dressing in there, I don’t care which one, but why would you want them in water? I buy large jars, like quart size, in oil. They last in the fridge a long time, as do pickled pepperoncini. Beware of the hearts of palm, though, use ’em or lose ’em, they will mold very quickly.
