Port Dover, Ontario – on the north shore of Lake Erie directly north of Erie, Pennsylvania – is the largest freshwater fishing port in the world. It’s therefore not at all a surprise that just about all the snack food booths by the beach feature freshwater perch as well as pickerel(the Canadian name for walleye). Knechtel’s booth in particular features battered and fried perch and pickerel that rank right up there with the best fried fish I’ve ever had anywhere! And the portions are large enough to satisfy a man’s appetite!
Port Dover also draws a biker meet every Friday the 13th with hundreds of Harley riders congregating from all over eastern Canada and the United States! I guess they must like the perch….
