Fry some onion and bacon in the pot in which you intend to heat the beans, add the beans, a dash of whatever BBQ sauce you have around, and jack up the heat a little with some hot sauce. If you have some actual BBQ’d meat around, use that in place of the bacon.
I agree with the Bush’s. I prefer the "Homestyle", I add onions as well along with a squirt of my favorite BBQ sauce, put in a casserole dish, put a few bacon slices on top and throw in the oven, OR if I’m grilling something that takes time such as chicken or pork, I’ll put them on the grill also.
Grandma Brown’s Baked Beans, are the best IMO. You have to either go to Upstate, NY or a Wegman’s to get them. After growing up on these, I do not waste my time with Bushes or other national brands.
I’ve found that adding a handful of diced onion and bell pepper and a squirt of mustard make all the difference in the world for the taste of canned bakers.
I like these, especially the Boston style.
