Occasionally I get a wierd Microsoft error message (Microsoft Visual C ++ debug error) only on this site. It gives me three options but only one that works is the "Abort" option which takes me offline, back to the desktop. This only happens on RF and it began maybe a couple of months ago. I have wondered if it isn’t related to some of the ads. Is anyone else getting this?
Well, my virus protection is good for things other than virus protection. I notice that if I bring up the Active Topics screen, which does not have a lot of graphic contect, only that "Spoonsored" logo, there is 1,130,000 bytes transferred (downloaded)!!!!
I don’t know why the character count is so high, unless they are also downloading all the messages included in every topic. But, it sure takes a long time for the refresh.
I couldn’t tell you when the RV ads showed up, but I do know that ever since I joined here this site has loaded slowly.
I agree with MilwFoodlovers. It’s this site, only, and it seems to have started with the RV Association ads showing up.
I’ve high speed cable broadband and this site and this site only takes me back to unlamented 56K days. I find it frustrating and I use the loading time to read the newspaper or scan a magazine. I’m puzzled by the remarks that others have no problem with this site. Videos, movies, other sites with tons of graphics all load quickly but not Roadfood. This started around the time the major RV sponsorship started so I put up with it as a cost of using this site. Still, I’m now puzzled that this isn’t universal. I’ve a pretty new HP with tons of memory running Vista. Once again, it’s only this site.[:(]

Been all good here, but have seen some of the ads load slowly in the past.
Thankfully it seems fine here [:)]
I have hi-speed wireless connection and for the most part, websites load very fast. Oh! the days of dial-up woes. I had visions of that returning here, the way pages loaded.[:(]
This is strange, after a couple of weeks of very slow loading, tonight the pages are popping up quite fast.Hmmmm! only one day after complaining.
I hope this will be the norm from now on, I was getting ready to put on my steel toe boots.
Patience! is not my virtue, I guess.[;)]
Thanks for the help on that, guys… I’ll know not to delete anything now..
When I moved from Dial-up to the broadband service I now have, I saw an immediate increase in up and downloading speed. A month ago, thanks to Mike S, I doubled the RAM in my Dell Desktop from one Gig to 2 Gigs. I am amazed at how much that improved the speed of the up and down loads. The upgrade in Ram did more to increase the speed than the jump from Dial-up to Broadband.
I still get hung-up when certain AD’s open..They slow the whole process down considerably.[:(!]
And I thought it was just my PC/wireless connection…….
Huh.
Ellen, A photo in the message board is a referenced photo linking back to the web page where the photo resides. HTML IMG code allows that photo to be seen in a message. It is like a web page contained in another web page. So, if you delete the uploaded photo, move the uploaded photo, change its web page location, etc. the referenced link gets broken and the photo does not appear in the message. If you accidentally delete or change a photo you can re-upload it and then go back into your message and edit the IMG link to the new one.
Roadfood has been running more slowly than any other site I visit. I’ll frequently make phone calls while waiting for a topic to open or a forum to open.
Ellen, The Upload ‘delete’ works the same as if you delete a link to photos off site. The Upload file is where the foto on your Post is stored. If you delete the stored photo then there is no image to be shown on the post and it will go blank too.
I usually go to "Active Topics", and if it’s been a while since I"ve logged on, it can take a VERY long time to load the topics. [V]
Same as felix, I do something else while it loads.
