If ya go to the Fish Fry places, it’s like having an oil change. Bring something to sop up all the oil.

Grew up in these parts and was away for many many years and this is one of the things that seems unique to the area, and should be retired.

Ralph’s brings back fond memories !
I love hot chicken wings, and have always told the waitress that I like them very hot !!! Well the cook/chef made them sooooooo hot
I could not eat them !! The only plate of wings I could not finish !
Ralph’s is a whole in the wall, but like the above post, has great food and cheap prices !

I have lived in and around Albany for 36 years, there are many great places in the area. Tavern Food: The Fountain on New Scotland ave, The Orchard in West Albany, Quintesence on New Scotland Ave near Albany Medical Hospital, they have the the biggest omlets on the planet. Grandma’s pies are great. Ralph’s may be the best kept secret in the Capital Region prices rock bottom quality very high.

    Memories……

I loved the old Bogey’s. My band used to play the Thursday night beer blasts on a regular basis. We even got to open up for the Spin Doctors when they were famous….and we thought we could be rock starz

Dudes – great to hear people still talking about Strange Arrangement! As luck would have it, I am putting a website together for Kevin (lead guitar), and Dan’s (killer rhythm guitar) has been around for a while. These guys are alive and well, and now that I’m living back in Albany I will work on getting them back together ;-). Depending on when you guys hung out at Bogies, you very likely enjoyed a beer w/ me. I was their first fan – my nickname is "Bosco". 🙂

    Here are their websites:

OH MY GOD!!! I used to go to see Strange Arrangement every single week when they played at Bogey’s in Albany. Just seeing that name brought back some awesome memories. I remember the one guy used to do the guitar solo from "Comfortably Numb" behind his head, Hendrix style. When did they ever play in Manhattan????

In the late 1980s/early 1990s, they played in Manhattan on a fairly regular basis, often at a now-defunct Village bar called Sun Mountain. I think that’s what it was called, anyway. It was next to the Boston Comedy Club on West 3rd.

The guitar solo guy was Dan. Can’t remember the other guy’s name.

i95, do you live around here??? You seem to have a thumb on the pulse of our struggling music scene.

    Just curious.

Only if you consider "living around there" a semi-annual, August sojourn to "invest" the kids’ college fund on the ponies in Saratoga. [;)]

I’m not the one who started this thread but, since I too happened to be in Albany this past weekend visiting family, I thought I’d weigh in.

I grabbed some pie with my cousin at Grandma’s, and enjoyed it very much. Also ate dinner at an Italian restaurant my family was raving about called Bellini’s. The place was packed. It was so-so, I thought, but I’m spoiled by the Italian food in NYC. I don’t think it would last here, to be honest. But, it was fun.

I did forget A really great place in Albany for great sandwhiches…that is Andy’s Italian Market. I live on the west coast now but used to work near Delaware ave. in Albany. The smell of this place is what I believe heaven will be like. Oh the Cheeses and Olives, Italian cold cuts etc.

I have gone to a few of the places here in North Beach and they are okay but Andy’s….Albany does have some great food.

One thing or another gets me to Albany now and then, and now I cant wait for an excuse to go to try out some of the places you floks have suggested. I’m the guy who said, only a week ago, that the place was a culinary desert – hope i was wrong…

So true, zigfus! Plus, don’t forget that just over the river in neighboring Troy is home to the literal backbeat of the most dangerous band on the planet, Bill Milhizer, drummer of the still goin’ Fleshtones (http://www.fleshtones.org).
