Well the suspense is over.
I checked in. Clean, well maintained but not updated … old fixtures, but generally feels okay. $80 a night plus tax … they charge $10 for Internet though, so with Best Western at $107, BW is probably a better bet, but the location is perfect for me tonight.
I’m at the restaurant downstairs and it is valid b/o good glass of wine and nicely cooked calamari tapa.
The Hi-Ho off the Merrit?
Why does this make me think of Elizabeth Taylor’s last stop in "Butterfield 8"? If Laurence Harvey is at the lounge, don’t accept his offer of a drink. [8)]
Barcelona is nice at the hote, but the SoNo Barcelona is better. I know nothing about the rooms.
The company I represent has an office in Hamden and usually stay there at the Clarion (a valid choice) … but I have friends down in Redding.
I was down there last week and now have two Pepe’s pizzas in my freezer.
Lower Connecticut is truly rich in good RF spots, that’s for sure.
That place has sort of an iconic appearence to me. It has been there forever. I love the big letters on top of the building. I never stayed there as I lived in Wilton, and now Waterbury. It might be interesting due to its long history in the area. I suspect that the rooms may be smaller by todays standards, but maybe they have charm.
Barcelona sounds like it might be worth checking out. It does have an outdoor patio and I do not think that there are that many Spanish restaurants in the county.
What are you doing in Fairfield? Your other post and this one regarding ‘Q or not Q’ makes it seem like you are smack dab in the middle for a variety of places and directions.
You should try Pepe’s Apizza on Commerce St. and go down the Post Rd., (Rt 1)to Southport and try Southport Seafood. Try the fried whole belly clams…
Check your computer, you are in the middle of plenty of flagged sites when you go to Connecticut listings.
I spent 3 nights last week at the Best Western: a good value and only half mile from Pepe’s and Super Duper Wenie.
I’ve been to the Norwalk places: very good, standard issue and a half mile from Letizia’s.
But, I’m visiting friends in Redding and the driving time will add up at the other places.
So, far I haven’t been able to dig up any reviews on the travel/hotel sites.
If you want to stick to the Merritt, you might try the Trumbull Marriott, about exit 50, or 51. They can refer you to places to eat. I know because we ran into some one staying there at a restaurant last week, as we were escaping the heat. [:)]
its so-so, and remember that fryday is party night . . . although Barcelona is a good place to tapa out
there are a bunch of motels/hotels off Exit 40B Norwalk . . . Hilton Garden, Four Points, Courtyard . . . they are probably a better bet than Hi-Ho, and tend to have cheap weekend rates
theres also a recently renoveted Best Western off Exit 25 I-95 in Fairfield thats less than a 1/2 mile west of Pepe’s (food for thought)
The "Hi-Ho" Motel?? Ummmmm – sounds like a "Love thy Neighbor….here" type of place [}:)]
Anybody have any recent experience with the Motel Hi-Ho on the Merrit Turnpike ???
I stayed there 6 or 7 years ago and it was iff-y … I have the feeling it may have come up a bit over time … they have a Tapas restaurant now with a good reputation maybe the rooms have gotten better ???
I need a room tomorrow and the Hi-Ho is perfect location-wise.
A long shot in Fairfield County …
