I’ve been to a number of those places, but never felt “trapped”.

In any case, I noticed that Ben’s Chili Bowl has opened several satellite locations, including the one illustrated which is on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, between Rosslyn and Courthouse – a much safer neighborhood than their store #1 on U St., NW.

I still prefer Weenie Beenie.

I don’t have a problem with any of the places on the list, but rather take issue with the heading “Tourist Trap”.  There’s a big difference between “Touristy” and “Tourist Trap“.  The word “trap” has extreme negative connotations, implying you’ll get ripped off.  Whereas “touristy” just means lots of folks from out of town go there cuz they’ve heard it’s good stuff.  Many of the places on that list fall into the second category rather than the first.

It’s unfortunate that the editorial staff at The Daily Meal fell into the literary trap of using a stereotyped phrase without fully understanding its meaning.

“The lines at Franklin BBQ are legendary. You ll be standing and waiting for hours and hours and hours. But at the end of that ridiculously long queue are the finest ribs in Austin, and that s saying something. This place is beyond hyped, but the hype is worth it. The peppery ribs are so tender and flavorful, you don t even need one of the joint s three sauces. But you should probably try them anyway.”

I’ve heard that sometimes you can get brisket at Franklin, too.

Yeah, they’re usu=ing a loose term. Both Pink’s and Phillipe’s have plenty of tourists—–but still the locals are what keeps them busy.

Apparently I seek out tourist traps, because we have been to 23 of them. They do get right that the only Primanti s location worth seeking out is the original Strip District restaurant, but it s far from a tourist trap.
