Zada Jane’s Corner Cafe
Review by: Michael Stern
Zada Jane’s is a breakfast hot spot in the Queen City – a lively place where locals gather to chat ‘n’ chew and fill up on caffeine, available in all sorts of specialty espressos and coffees.
Hearty food! Fluffy buttermilk biscuits are accompanied by squeeze bottles of out-of-this-world apple jam and multi-berry jam obtained from a small farm outside of Asheville. Among several sausage choices is beautifully-seasoned, locally-made Grateful Grower’s pork. French toast is made from challah bread dipped in amaretto-flavored batter; thick slices come sprinkled with slivered toasted almonds and accompanied by orange butter.
You probably will wait for a table, especially on weekends, when even seats at the counter can be hard to find. Zada Jane’s is a small place, located in a building that once was a gas station, then a dry cleaner. Its close quarters make for a sociable dining experience, even if your inclination is to be a hermit.
