University Restaurant

Review by: sssscooter

It’s a beautiful drive through Dorchester County farmland to get to the University Restaurant, located at the back of the Lewis General Store. Here you find a menu that ranges from outlandish fried mac ‘n’ cheese with truffle sauce to homey buttermilk pie for dessert.

There is a bit of a drive to get to University Restaurant, but you won’t mind the trip. It is through scenic Dorchester County farmland. You will miss it if you aren’t looking, as it sits in the back of the Lewis General Store (owned by the same folks) from which the same chef whips up a nice breakfast and lunch. While the General Store is good, the University Restaurant is where their talents shine.

Our recent visit began with Maryland crab spring rolls and fried mac and cheese with a truffle sauce. Both were perfect and had us wanting more. Our entrees were smoked mozzarella ravioli with a spinach and red pepper sauce and some darned good fried shrimp. At $12 and $15 respectively, they were real bargains given their quality. Dessert was a peach streusel cake and a memorable buttermilk pie.

The owners made us feel welcome and appreciated. Take a chance and a ride in the country. You will be glad you did!
