Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl
Review by: Roadfood Team
Conveniently located right next to I-70 in eastern Ohio, Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl serves sandwiches, roasted nuts and, of course, its own made-in-house ice cream.
Wonderful! It was a step back in time. I was travelling west on I-70 and stopped at a pottery shop just outside of Zanesville, OH. “Is there a good place for lunch” I asked. I was directed to Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl. As I walked in, I was greeted by the salty smell of freshly roasted nuts.
What should I eat at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl?
I sat at the counter and quickly discovered that they had fried bologna. How often do you see that on a menu? I had mine on white bread with mayo and fried onions. All sandwiches are available on white or whole wheat.
Save yourself for the ice cream, which was incredible–very rich, creamy, and smooth and ever so tasty; all of it is made by Tom’s.
Even if you are not crazy about ice cream, Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl is still worth a visit. The décor appears not to have changed since 1948 and is complete with white subway tiles on the walls and linoleum on the floor. Aside from Zane Grey, the other source of pride in Zanesville is the “Y” bridge.
