Tacos De Juarez

** THIS RESTAURANT IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED **
Approaching Tacos De Juarez in the hot Arizona sun, your eyes may at first deceive you. Murals of skulls and roosters may intimidate the typical “gringo” from entering, but walk right in and you’ll find a warm welcoming interior with “old school” southwestern decor and furnishings.
Serving Sonoran comfort food, the menu at Tacos De Juarez includes soft and hard shell tacos, puffy gorditas, big burros bursting with red chili, enchiladas, horchata and even the hangover cure-all, menudo.
Meals begin with warm tortilla chips served with a very vibrant green and milder red salsa. All tacos are served on home made tortillas. The shredded beef tacos are moist and flavorful, heavy on the onions and cilantro, however they lacks the heat of it’s New Mexican neighbors. If you dare, order the lengua (tongue), bathed in a peppery chipotle marinade or perhaps the cheese enchiladas topped with red chili and loaded with onions. Although combo meals are available, just about everything can be ordered a’la carte and come with refried beans, rice and oddly enough, lettuce and tomato with French salad dressing.
Although Tacos De Juarez may appear to be a little rough around the edges, it’s a diamond in the rough for good cheap Mexican food in the heart of the barrio.
