Sweet Lew’s

Review by: Lori Rice

When in downtown Paso Robles, California, head to the corner of the main square and up the stairs or elevator to Sweet Lew’s, a pizza place with a pleasant view of people walking and shopping below. Bright, pleasantly busy, and spacious, this spot is a welcome break of delicious food and drink.

Order at the cashier station or at the bar during lunch, or grab a menu and take a seat until you decide. Grab a craft beer from one of 16 taps.

Wings are a favorite starter. You can get them bone-in or boneless with a choice nearly a dozen sauces. Cheese sticks, garlic knots, and fries are some of the other options on the starter menu.

A large salad is right for sharing. Of several options, the classic Garden Salad is a good choice, especially when you pair it with pesto ranch dressing. It’s loaded with veggies and served with slices of bread with pesto. You can add chicken to make the salad a hearty meal.

There are several sandwich options, but you really should get pizza. The crust has a tangy flavor with just the right thickness: more bite and texture than a thin crust, but not too filling.

Choose from over ten types of pizza or build your own. If you don’t want a whole pie, there are Fat Slice options available, too. Specialty pies have toppings that range from classic pepperoni to hot chicken, pulled pork, and Brussels sprouts.

The Chico Cali pizza is a winning choice. It has Sweet Lew’s red sauce and mozzarella paired with pieces of linguica, pepperoni, tender roasted garlic, and dots of creamy ricotta.

There is a small outdoor patio for those who want to eat in fresh air.
