Shaw Farm
Review by: Stephen Rushmore Jr.
Drive a few short miles outside of the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, and the smoke stacks are suddenly replaced by silos and the concrete by lush green fields. It is in the town of Dracut that one can discover the last operating dairy farm in the greater Lowell area. Shaw Farm has been producing milk for over a century, but only began to sell its ice cream from a seasonal stand in 1999. Ice cream cones are best eaten at one of the outdoor picnic tables, just a stone’s throw from the farm’s bovine residents.
