Most customers who come to Nord’s bakery take their pastries to go. But there is a small dining area in back where you can sit and savor some of the best donuts anywhere, especially ethereal buttercream-filled cream puffs. These puffs really do define the meaning of buttercream: butter + cream with just enough sugar to induce a smile.

Among Nord’s specialties are iced sugar cookies in the shape of Kentucky, long johns frosted with maple spread and topped with a crisp strip of bacon, donuts shaped like pretzels, glazed bear claws, knobby apple fritters, and ooey-gooey cinnamon-veined pecan rolls. A sign in the dining area declares, “It’s all good!” Amen to that.
