Muffin Patch

On a recent trip to Old Forge, NY to reunite with some college friends, my girlfriend and I had the opportunity to eat breakfast at the Muffin Patch. What a find this was! I think that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I’m always in search of the best.
The Muffin Patch is located on Route 28, which is the main strip in Old Forge. It’s a big tourist town with lots of places to shop and eat. One of the things that makes the Muffin Patch a great “Roadfood” place is that they are only open for breakfast and lunch (except Friday evening dinners). Our friends said we MUST have the sweet rolls as that is what they are known for.
My girlfriend had the Bananas Foster French Toast, which was four slices of thick bread with banana slices and whipped cream, bathed in a glorious pool of luscious caramel sauce. One bite and I wished I had ordered it! The banana flavor was infused throughout the sauce, which also was teetering on the edge of burnt caramel. I had over easy eggs with home fries and ham. The eggs were perfectly cooked and I have to say that the home fries and ham were the best I have had in some time. The home fries were creamy and seasoned just right. The ham was shaved and had a welcome saltiness. Taking a bite of the eggs, potatoes and ham in one forkful, I felt all was right in my world. I also had a short stack of pancakes that were light and spongy, but I bypassed the maple syrup and let them do a couple of laps in the pool of Foster sauce. Heavenly!
The sweet rolls were truly outstanding. Huge, chewy and loaded with sweet frosting and a sprinkling of chopped walnuts. I highly recommend them. The staff was great and even took my picture outside as we were leaving. The Adirondack region is well known for its wealth of outdoor activities and a hike up nearby McCauley Mountain is a great way to work off this splendid breakfast.
