Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse and Bakery
Review by: Roadfood Team
Get it before it’s gone at Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse and BakeryThe menu is pretty simple, but it is fantastic. Each day features a special and it is served till they run out. What should I eat at Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse and Bakery?you have a choice of a June burger, soup of the day, or homemade chicken salad sandwich. The day we visited, we arrived at about 12:30 pm, just as a small bus load of folks were leaving. While this was great timing for getting a seat, it was bad timing for getting the daily special as it had sold out. The daily special on Friday is pot roast with carrots and potatoes and I really hated missing out on it. In my despair I settled on a June burger and sweet potato fries and my wife had the chicken and dumplings with an angel biscuit. The June burger is a patty that has been marinated in a seasoned sauce, and is then pan-fried and served on a loaded bun (cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard, and mayo). The burger is served on real plates; the presentation was way beyond expectations. It is a very good burger and well worth ordering. The sweet potato fries were an unexpected treat. The chicken and dumplings that my wife ordered was also above average and very good-tasting. It was presented very nicely in a thick soup bowl on a real plate. The chicken is very tender and the dumplings are homemade. The angel biscuit is light and fluffy, and just what a good biscuit should be. And to top the meal off, we tried the Coca-Cola cake and the peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Both desserts are homemade, and are truly satisfying. While the presentation of the Coca-Cola cake could be improved, the taste made up for the lack of flair at Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse and Bakery *original post by Dave R.* |
