It’s easy to miss Los Temos, just north of Salem on old Highway 99 heading to Woodburn. Keep your eyes peeled for the sign with the goat head. That’s your clue as to what’s good at Los Temos.
What should I eat at Los Temos?Their specialty is birria de chivo, a delicious stew of goat meat and dried chiles and other spices. They open every morning and close in the afternoon and have birria every day. That’s what nearly everyone comes here to eat. The birria comes with corn tortillas handmade to order. If you run out, you can ask for more. I usually order birria tacos ($2) or the birria combination, which is a plate with a generous serving of birria, beans, and rice ($10). If you ask you can get a cup of the “consome,” which is the hot broth from the birria. Don’t miss it. It’s one of the best things about the meal.
