Little Garden Cafe

Review by: Miranda Cilfone & Kris Masilamani

In a city of many highly recommended roadside coffee stands, each pumping its own unique blend, we were hard pressed to choose which one to try. Spokane is a city for coffee lovers, but on this early morning we were looking not only for good coffee, but for a hearty bite to eat as well. Little Garden Cafe appeared right as we needed it, offering baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, fresh coffee, and lively morning smiles.

We chose a Breakfast Smoothie, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffin, Cinnamon Roll, and build-your-own Egg Patty Sandwich. The egg sandwich choices are extensive. Bagel varieties range from plain to Asiago to jalapeño; and the meat and cheese selection is  large as well. Our jalapeño bagel was soft; the egg, cheddar cheese and turkey were flavorful. “The works” brought the whole thing together: pesto mayo, tomato, and sprouts. So savory! The pumpkin chocolate chip muffin was simple, not too sweet, clearly homemade and slightly warm so the chocolate chips melted in your mouth with every bite! The breakfast smoothie, made of orange juice, blueberry, spinach and banana, paired oddly with our other meal selections and was a bit to orangey for our liking, but tasted fresh and healthy on its own. We saved our last bites for the humongous Cinnamon Roll slathered in cream cheese frosting. This heated treat was oozing cinnamon filling all swirled into a doughy delight and was likely the best cinnamon roll we’ve ever tasted.

Coffee originates from Washington-based Evan Brothers Coffee Roasting Co. It is slightly bitter, leaves no bite, and kept us energized for the day ahead. We were intrigued by the Pumpkin Chai Latte, as Little Garden makes its own pumpkin sauce in house. This specialty did not disappoint; it was light, frothy and made for a warming morning delight.

Little Garden’s spacious seating area is perfect for concentrating on your laptop or reading the morning paper. There also is a small play area for young children. We took a seat near some comfy couches and relaxed as our coffee and tea were promptly delivered.

If you’re on the search for decent coffee paired with an accommodating menu of savory and sweet breakfast options, then look no further than the Little Garden Cafe. After much sampling, we can say we recommend almost all their creations.
