La Cocina
Review by: Roadfood Team
La Cocina is located just east of the I-25 freeway. The restaurant is spacious and has outdoor dining located in a courtyard sheltered from the ever present NM wind. This is a newer facility decorated in an unusual combination of hand-made tables and outdoor trophies. But the point of the visit is the food and there is plenty of it.
What should I eat at La Cocina?
Friends from El Paso warned us to order the regular sopapillas, which were honestly the largest we’d ever seen. They were each about 8″ by 8″ and could easily have been a meal by themselves. So go hungry!
The stacked enchiladas are true to the New Mexico standard with tasty, homemade green chile, beef, cheese, and a fried egg on top. The chile is medium-hot by New Mexico standards but the uninitiated would rate them as hot. We also tried a chile relleno which was quite good.
