Junior’s

My girlfriend and I like to try new places, and when we heard Junior’s was opening up in the Lower Concourse of Grand Central Station, we had to try it. It’s a nice respite from the constant flow of people upstairs on the main level. Our waiter, Ricardo, brought us a complimentary starter of pickled beets, sour pickles, and vinegar coleslaw. The flavors of these were very bright, clean, and lip-puckeringly good. They really got my appetite going!

My girlfriend had the turkey burger with fries and onion rings. I didn’t try the burger, but the fries and rings were quite good. Greasy, but that’s what worked for me on this evening. The onion rings were batter dipped and especially good.

I had the roasted turkey Reuben sandwich and it came with, I believe, Russian dressing on the side. Now, I’m a huge sandwich lover. I think if I could just have one food, it would be sandwiches. This one was really, really good! Ricardo said the turkey was roasted on the bone and it shows. The very moist meat was bursting with roasted flavor. This was no grocery store deli counter turkey, but the real deal. Also packed in that baby were crunchy, crisp coleslaw and Swiss cheese. All served on grilled rye bread that obviously had been buttered with an experienced hand as the crunch when I bit into it blew me away. Lots of dressing was liberally spread on this sandwich. A real winner here. I washed it all down with a classic Dr. Brown’s black cherry soda.

The atmosphere attempts to evoke memories of Brooklyn, but it’s all about the food. A great meal was had here.
