Jacques Torres Chocolate

Review by: Bruce Bilmes and Susan Boyle

If you’re ever on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge treating yourself to a delectable meal at Grimaldi’s or indulging in ice cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, don’t forget to take a leisurely stroll over to Jacques Torres Chocolate in DUMBO. Owned by the master chocolatier and former pastry chef, Jacques Torres has a unique ability to express whimsicality throughout his chocolate creations.

Some of his playfully delicious items include milk chocolate-coated Cheerios, a caramel and rum sauce aptly named Body Butter, and an icy cold version of his famous hot chocolate. The iced hot chocolate is particularly noteworthy, a frothy, bittersweet, and surprisingly refreshing beverage that blends his renowned packaged hot chocolate mix with ice.

At the counter is where you can immerse yourself in the pure beauty of selecting chocolates piece-by-gorgeous-piece, like Love Potion #9, Alizé Hearts of Passion, Wicked Fun, Ménage a Trois, or Love Bug (flavor translations available at the counter). Chocolate is the epitome of love, and even if you prefer the less steamily-named bonbons, you’ll surely succumb to the charm of Jacques Torres Chocolate. The unusual flavors are genuine and reasonably priced, especially for chocolates of his quality and pedigree.
