Hilltop Pub & Grill
Review by: Roadfood Team
Mitchell’s Hilltop Pub & Grill is a friendly tavern offering a wide variety of local microbrews, grilled bratwurst, fresh cheese curds, and a great Friday fish fry.
What should I eat at Mitchell’s Hilltop Pub & Grill?
A local tradition for Friday fish fry, this pub serves a wide variety of local brews and daily specials.
The Friday fish fry (baked also available) draws them from miles around, but they also feature pasta dishes and a few Mexican dishes. Their daily specialties are worth checking out, especially the prime rib sandwich.
Various Point beer varieties (try the Amber) are on tap, along with several local microbrews.
Casual, sometimes loud and always delicious. The entrance is a 125 year old beer vat, leading to several dining rooms and a bar. Diners have a choice of the noise of the bar area, a quieter room, a screened in porch or an outdoor area. Family and causal dining, with a very active takeout counter. Located on Hwy 10, just west of I-39.

Aggressively average. I saw one other review here from 2004. A lot can change in 19 years and, in this case, it apparently has. We ordered the recommended bratwurst and fish fry. The brat was big and flavorful but served with reheated canned sauerkraut, on a mediocre roll, with house made chips that were half stale. The fish fry was likewise nothing to be excited about. Frankly this place, while obviously popular with locals, doesn’t meet Roadfood standards.

The Hilltop is Stevens Point’s answer to Boston’s fictional “Cheers”. Great place not only to eat but meet your friends/neighbors for a few brews as well. The fish fry is definitely a must-try. The breading is just enough to compliment the taste of the fish while not being too thick to overpower it. The accompanying fries are a sumptuous golden from using clean oil. The grilled sandwiches are done with precision to your liking and always go well with one of Stevens Point Brewery’s finest beers. Coffee brewed to perfection and soda with just the right amount of ice are also served by attentive waitstaff. It’s an easy-find, right on State Highway 10.
