Flury’s Cafe
Review by: Michael Stern
This tiny diner seats scarcely over a dozen people and there is nothing revolutionary on the menu, but if you are in greater Akron and looking for a hospitable slice of Americana, we recommend it.
There is always a pancake of the day – we have enjoyed cornmeal and banana-nut, and although they tend to be dry enough to want plenty of syrup, they’ve got a good, from-scratch flavor. Other highlights of the breakfast menu include rugged sausage gravy on a biscuit, chorizo scramble, and a tomato omelet featuring house-made pesto.
Featured lunch opportunities are meat loaf sandwiches, Kentucky hot browns, and a chicken BLT salad. Any meal should be preceded by proprietor Kim Dunchuck’s homemade soup and accompanied by good mac ‘n’ cheese. All the usual milk shake flavors are available, plus blueberry, raspberry, cherry, and peanut butter. For dessert, choose from among Kim’s homemade cookies and shortcake laced with blueberries or blackberries.
