Flo’s Luncheonette

Years back, when a trip to one of the many beaches on Long Island was a BIG trip, every beach had a place like Flo’s Luncheonette. These roadside shacks served quick meals so that no one would be hungry on the slow ride home. Most of these places are long gone but Flo’s, just up the street from busy Corey Beach, is still thriving.
Step up to the front window of Flo’s, place your order, and then find a seat at one of the wooden picnic tables on each side of the building, each with a table cloth and umbrella.
What to eat at Flo’s Luncheonette
As the sign indicates, Flo’s is noted for their “toasted sandwiches.” The large and tasty burgers are served on toasted potato bread. In particular, the Flo Burger, with a slice of Canadian bacon, a few leaves (not shreds) of lettuce, raw onion, and a thick tomato slice, is head and shoulders above anything one could get from one of the many fast-food places a mile or two up the road.
Flo’s also has a great selection of salads as well as a good variety of wraps. One of my fellow diners enjoyed a Cajun shrimp wrap, while another had a grilled Caesar chicken wrap. Both were well-spiced and amply filled. The wrap itself was a spicy flat bread that added flavor without overpowering the rest of the wrap.
They grill Boars Head franks, a darn good dog, and they are placed in a grilled potato bun. The spicy chili with beans, by the cup, is rather unusual, and would probably be more suited as a topping for one of those good hot dogs. My sister loves the fried clam strips and the fried clam wrap, but I have never tried it. The menu also includes clams, on the half-shell or steamed.
Flo’s is one of the last of its kind on Long Island. Too many of these places have been swallowed up by development. I’d heartily recommend a stop at Flo’s, both for the great food and the trip back in time.

Flo’s is the Long Island Experience! I remember going there as a child. I continue to go there with my husband every summer. The environment is very relaxing. It’s next to Corey Beach so you can visit Flo’s before or after you go to the beach, or both.
The food at Flo’s is amazing. I love the grilled cheese. They use potato bread which makes the grilled cheese more delicious. My husband has tried the wraps, hamburger, and veggie burger; he loves everything. The number one item on the menu that you need to order when visiting Flo’s is their French fries. They are terrific.
Flo’s is a wonderful place to get a bite to eat and they are very family-oriented. They get a 10 in our book!

Wow, was I surprised to see this! I grew up in Blue Point and it was officially summer when Flo’s opened. So many of my summer childhood memories include Flo’s. The hamburgers and hotdogs were always the best and my family went there at least once a week. I went back a few years ago having been gone from the area for over 20 years and I was so happy to be able to go to Flo’s and have a juicy hamburger just as I remembered it. Nothing like it! Friendly staff and delicious food. It is truly a local landmark. Worth the drive from any place.
