Flo’s Kitchen
Review by: Michael Stern
Just a quick detour off I-95, Flo’s is a breakfast-only cafe where biscuits star. They are broad ones, soft and buttery and great to eat with nothing added, even more rewarding when split to sandwich sausage egg and cheese, pork tenderloin, fried chicken, rank country ham, or a cluster of wicked-good fatback logs. Although egg plates, pancakes, French toast, grits, and hash browns are available, biscuits are the reason to come to Flo’s. A good supplement for sweet-tooth types is a cup of molasses (for 50 cents): a marvelous biscuit-dip.
It’s a small place, and while some people do come into the cozy dining area to enjoy their breakfast, drive-through is the more popular choice. There always is a line of cars; but daunting as it seems. the wait isn’t horribly long. While you are inching forward, a member of the staff arrives at the car to take your order. By the time you get to the window, your biscuits will be ready to go.
Note that business is cash only. Open at 4am Tuesday through Saturday, Flo’s closes at noon.
