Downtowner Restaurant

What to eat at Downtowner Restaurant
Downtowner Restaurant lunch: meat loaf, smothered pork chops, turkey & dressing, or fried catfish along with collard greens, mac ‘n’ cheese, broccoli casserole and such other familiar Dixie veggies. Including tea and bread, it’s an under-$10 meal that is a diner paradigm. All that’s needed to complete it is a slice of Downtowner cool lemon ice box pie, perched upon a crumbly Graham cracker crust.
Open every day at 7 (Monday through Friday only), this is a restaurant that attracts a local crowd for breakfast as well as for an ongoing coffee klatch that takes place both table to table and at one big “liars’ table” where people come and go all morning long. The breakfast menu is unsurprising: eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy. I enjoyed a “scattered” meal of glistening, crisp-edge hash browns mixed with ham and bits of vegetable and topped with melted orange cheese.
Downtowner Restaurant is a worthy stop for anyone in search of local color at a townies’ favorite diner.
