Dolly’s Produce Patch and Eatery
Review by: Michael Stern
Dolly’s is a place to kick back, relax, and enjoy a downhome meal. That’s breakfast of eggs and omelets, pancakes and French toast, even creamed chipped beef on toast. At lunch the bustling roadside enterprise attracts regulars and tourists alike for sandwiches, hamburgers, and salads as well as chili and a hot meal of the day. Of everything I tasted when I visited, it was the hot meal that impressed me. Pot roast, cooked to a fare-thee-well, dripping juice and full-flavored, piled high on a plate with decent gravy, mashed potatoes, and just-cut boiled carrots, is not exactly a typical West-Coast-of-Florida meal, but it is a darn good one!
Dolly’s is proud of its pies, sold whole to take home or by the slice as dessert after lunch (or breakfast). They’re not from a factory, that’s for sure, but neither are they home-cooking wonderful. The cream pies tend to have a thick taste and their meringues, while lofty, are none too delicate, either. Peach, blueberry, and apple, are some of the fruit pies available.
I don’t recommend a detour to eat at Dolly’s, but if you are in the Naples area and hankering for a square-meals breakfast or a Sunshine-State lunch (salad in particular), it’s a good choice.
