Dat Dog

Review by: Roadfood Team

Stupendous, outlandish wieners star (alligator sausage topped with crawfish etouffe), but the pork and beef links are great, too, at Dat Dog.

I can’t decide if I enjoyed the food or the funky environment more during my visit at Dat Dog. I ate at the Magazine Street location (3336 Magazine) which had a nice big patio for us to enjoy our meal. They also told me that they have another location at 5030 Freret Street, which is also colorfully decorated from the inside out. I’ve always been a huge fan of hot dogs, but I’ve never come across alligator, andouille or crawfish dogs at any other hot dog spot. The restaurant had a ton of varied offerings that show Dat Dog is far from ordinary – I added creole tomatoes and crawfish etoufee to my dog!

What should I eat at Dat Dog?

Their basic pork and beef dogs are delicious. Although the offerings here are very gourmet, your meal won’t break the bank. You can add all the toppings your heart desires and pay just the price of the dog. I highly recommend that anyone (even vegetarians!) make a stop at one of their two locations to grab a dog, chili cheese fries, and cold beer.
