Cops and Doughnuts

Review by: Roadfood Team

Cops and Doughnuts is a police-themed bakery and luncheonette, this place serves all manner of doughnut, including the signature tour de force, Bubba’s Sweet & Spicy: a cake doughnut topped with peanut butter frosting, Frank’s hot sauce, hot pepper flakes and a slice of Jalapeno pepper.

In 2009 the 113 year old Clare Bakery stood on the verge of closing that is until the Clare City Police decided to purchase it. The 9 offices of department then reopened the bakery as “Cops and Doughnuts”. The bakery is now a police themed shop that plays up the old cops and doughnuts stereotype.

What should I eat at Cops and Doughnuts?

As the name implies this is first and foremost a doughnut shop, there’s a large variety of them along with several unusual ones, the squealer and Bubba’s sweet and spicy. The Squealer is an unfilled long John covered with maple frosting and two strips of bacon. It may sound gross but it’s pretty good and tastes similar to pancakes and bacon. The Bubba’s Sweet and Spicy is a cake doughnut topped with peanut butter frosting, Frank’s hot sauce, hot pepper flakes and a slice of Jalapeno pepper. They have a limited lunch menu as well.
