Cavalier Coastal Kitchen is located in the laid back seaside town of San Simeon, California. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving guests of the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort as well as anyone passing by down California’s Highway 1.
The lunch menu offers a wide selection of sandwiches and salads. Visitors should take their eyes straight to the burger list as the restaurant features grass-fed beef sourced less than a mile away from Hearst Ranch. Hearty appetites should have the BBQ Burger. This creation is not simply your standard burger with bbq sauce. BBQ refers to the pile of pulled pork that is served on top of the beef patty inside a soft brioche bun. As if it needed a bigger punch of flavor the burger is also topped with applewood smoked bacon, aged cheddar, and extra bbq sauce. It’s served with lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions. Burgers come with a choice of French fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw, diced fruit or quinoa.
If you like vegetables, have the Vegan Salad. It arrives as a delicious mix of greens with roasted vegetables such as carrots, fava beans, and corn combined with sunflower seeds, red quinoa, and a light citrus vinaigrette.
The Vegetarian Sandwich features a grilled portobello mushroom doused with a splash of balsamic vinegar before being stacked on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and mayonnaise. Try it with sweet potato fries — some of the crispiest anywhere.
If you order two sandwiches at the table, consider getting an order of sweet potato fries and another side such as creamy coleslaw. These fries arrive in what could be described as a mountain with plenty for two to share.
It’s a filling meal with a peaceful ocean view that does a good job of simultaneously refreshing the spirit. This is a spot that gives diners a true sense of coastal California.
