Bloedow Bakery
Review by: Michael Stern
We found out about Bloedow Bakery thanks to Roadfood.com tipster Vanessa Haluska, who directed us to a house specialty, the peanut butter roll. It’s a big, circular pastry made with sweet dough and swirled with peanut butter where you might expect cinnamon. For P.B. lovers it is a very large taste of heaven; and so we salute Vanessa, who described this charming place as “the best small town bakery that I have ever visited!”
Peanut butter rolls are but one of the dozens of delights to be found at this vintage bake shop, which also makes superior glazed and cake donuts, sweet rolls, maple-frosted long johns, and cookies.
Local foodlore says that six years ago, Krispy Kreme came to town, setting up its products in groceries and convenience stores. But the interloper donuts did not impress Minnesotans who knew better. In less than two years, KK had vanished from the shelves and Bloedow reigned supreme.
