Big Daddy Sandwiches

Review by: billyboy

I’ve been eating at Big Daddy Sandwiches since I can remember. The storefront has gotten a facelift in the past five years, but the sandwiches haven’t changed, and that’s a good thing. I used to work a few blocks down the street and always came here for lunch. It’s difficult to find a place that sells really good subs that are filling, made to order, and are really inexpensive.

The turkey sub is hefty and filled with Boar’s Head turkey, lettuce, onions, tomato, cheese and mayo and it always hits the spot. The large subs, called regular, go for $5.05, a great deal. And they have a variety of classic deli sub sandwiches to choose from. I definitely recommend the Ruby D (of which I have had many in my day). A toasted variation of a Reuben, it’s hot pastrami, Swiss, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on a sub roll. The Ruby D is at turns crispy, chewy, sour, sweet, soft and warm. One of the most comforting foods I know.

I usually get potato salad on the side. Its a mayo-based affair with small chunks of potato and finely diced carrots and celery mixed in. Creamy, and a nice alternative to chips. Drinks are pretty basic (soda, juice, milk, water). There are about four booths inside so most of their business is takeout. A great choice to take on a picnic or a day trip if you’re going up to the Adirondack Mountains.
