I recall reading a story in Esquire magazine many years ago about the importance of "crunch" as an oral experience. Being a devout ice cruncher and gum chewer I could attest as to the overall pleasing effect provided by "crunch." The article indicated that the food item which provided the most crunch was a green pepper soaked in ice water. My question then is, what is it that soothes your skull via "crunch?" What do you turn to in times of stress to soothe your mind?
