While I was visiting my folks in Iowa, my dad shared with me a way to dramatically improve the already-incredible Sterzing’s potato chips (local to Iowa and surrounding states) …

… nuke ’em.

That’s right.  Just pop them in the microwave for a little bit, allowing the very unhealthy oils locked inside the chips to rise to the surface.  The result tastes like fresh French fries.  Note: this works with Sterzing’s chips specifically because they already have French fry-like qualities.  Open a bag and take a whiff, and it smells like fries. Or batter.  Or fries and batter.  I wouldn’t dare try this with an inferior chip such as Lay’s or Wise.

If you look closely you can see the shine of the oil, as well as some slightly roasted spots which also tasted great.  My dad claims to have known about this for as long as both Sterzing’s and microwaves have been around together.

Know any funny but tasty tricks like that?  Share them here!
