My navigator and I (I’m the pilot, my wife’s the navigator) are planning a three-week "adventure" to the West (we visited the Southwest last October, and loved it) in late May or early June.
We will probably be exploring the states of Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas.
Our modus operandi (hey, is that fancy or what?? [:I]) is to fly into a major airport, lease a nice SUV and hit the road with our trusty Wal-mart atlas.
Would appreciate (from your personal experience) any "do-not-miss" attractions, Roadfood joints, backroads, whatever.
We HATE interstates and prefer "mom ‘n pop" type accommodations.
I will use your anticipated suggestions (most appreciated, I assure you) to plot a circle-like itinerary, starting at the airport, making a loop, and then returning to the airport three weeks later.
Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.
