The news said her dream to sail around the world is over but her experience stays with her the rest of her life and that experience is unmatched by 99.9999% of the rest of the population. You only live life once. Seize it if you can. So what the parents are rich enough to allow this. That’s just another lucky card in the deck. Money’s better spent on sailing than showering her with shopping sprees on Rodeo Drive or sending her down to Aruba for spring break. Doing this is no different, worse or dangerous than what millions of parents do letting their 16 year old kids out in dad’s car at night. More kids probably die by getting struck down by lightning on the golf course or playing high school football than drowning at sea in a sail boat.
The parents aren’t dumb. Their 17 year old son accomplished the sail last and imagine they are all well grounded in sailing experience. I also suspect the parents were as apprehensive and concerned as any parent would be. But if you like it also could be Nature’s way of weeding out the gene pool and I am fine with that. Oh well. Do you want life is a dream or life is a bitch, and then you die?
