Ducky was the last guy in the National League to win the triple crown—that was in the 30’s so over 70 years ago.  Then he got beaned and pulled away from the plate on high inside pitchs.  It made him a sucker for the curve—the Cards (Branch Rickey)  traded him to the last place Dodgers.  He never was a star again.
 
Michael—my mother died at age 96, and in cleaning out the attic I found my first fielders mitt.  A flat piece of leather with 5 fingers tied together with leather shoe lace things—-forgot the name.  No pocket——
Stamped into the bottom was “Ducky Medwick Model” and his signature. 
We, Sir, are brothers under the skin.  You got his bat, I got his mitt. 
And never the twain shall meet.
