Very beautiful and enticing food going on here lately especially with lleechef’s lovely quiche and creamy pasta dish. *Drool*
I’m not a fan of Spam either, but to each their own.
We did indeed make it to the seafood monger tonight, and the husband got his usual catfish fillets and tater tots fried on their site for takeout. I got a half peck of live oysters in the shell, 3/4 pound wild caught large shrimp and a nice slicer tomato. I don’t know where this little shop gets their tomatoes, but they’re always packing more flavor than the ones I can get at the grocery store.
While the husband ate his prepared food, I made a salad from half the tomato and some spinach and ate that as a first course. I offered him some, but he declined. He will eat veggies, but generally will avoid them if possible.
Then I peeled and deveined the shrimp. I’ve let the seafood place make me fried shrimp before, and it’s good, but it’s from farmed shrimp and just a touch more heavily breaded, and greasier than what I deem perfect. I seasoned some flour with a little salt and ground cayenne, tossed the shrimp in a recycled produce bag with the flour mixture, shook off excess flour, and popped them into hot oil in a 12″ skillet in two batches. Just lightly fried and flipped over once, then drained and blotted well on paper towels. That’s the way to fry perfect shrimp! [:)]They were delectable with lemon wedges. It was worth the extra work, expense and cleanup.
I couldn’t even finish all the shrimp, so I will get into them tomorrow along with the oysters, which have always been sea-fresh from this place before. I’m looking forward to it.
