I’d deter you away from Baby’s as well. It’s not a real genuine diner, just one of those cosmetic retro imitations you can find in any town. The kind that just puts a reproduced Coca Cola sign on the wall and queues up Love Me Tender on the juke box and makes it like a real Disneyland kind of experience. Faux culture at its best.
I guess if you just have to eat in downtown State College, I’d either go upstairs to the Allen Street Grill just for the view alone, The Tavern for the most typical Penn State experience at a place that’s been their since the beginning, or The Deli which probably has the best lunch and desserts. But if you really want the best food at the best places, I’d still stand by my previous suggestions in Boalsburg, Hublersburg or Bellefonte from my earlier posts:
Hublersburg Inn
Duffy’s Tavern
Gamble Mill
And don’t forget the ice cream at Meyer’s Dairy
