Thanks for tha tip Chef! Yep… it was late 60s when I ate most of those tacos. That “Austin Taco” thread here has some history about the Tamale House.
 
Here is some Austin history. There was once a “Chili Rice” place in Austin. It was fashioned after Shanghai Jimmy’s in Dallas. I think? it was called Shanghai Charley’s or Charlie’s. ? It was on the street just behind the UT Student Union. Not sure when it closed but it was there in the late 60s. I did find someone online that remembered it. It was good stuff!
 
Is chili rice Tex Mex? Well, I did start in Texas. But, maybe it’s no part Mexican?
