Just wondering if anyone is selling anything other than food on their carts. I was thinking maybe offering newspapers. I always see the guys on the side of the road selling sunday papers and wondered if it would be worth it.
I would stick to things that go along with your business and the idea of your business first. I added homemade lemonade and nachos with great success. The lemonade out sells my sodas 3 to 1 and it costs me only fifty-cents in lemon juice and about fifty-cents in sugar to make a gallon. The plastic cup and lid cost me more that the contents. It is a great money maker and it bring in sales because my clients come back again and again for the lemonade.
I have built my business on taste and not price. I sell Nathan’s 8-1 (skinny dog) and Nathan’s 4-1 (Jumbo dog.) I tell my customers that if they can find a better tasting dog, bring it to me and I will refund the price that they paid for my dog. I have not paid out a penny so far.
Price only takes you so far. But a great tasting dog, builds customer loyality and they keep coming back again and again.
The nachos are great too. I tell my customers that today they can substitute nachos for the bagged chips in the combo meal for the same price. The bagged chips cost me about .35 and the nachos cost me .20. The customer gets a better value meal and I get bigger profits. That is a win-win!! Plus, I don’t have to buy cases of bagged chips so often.
